Journal for HRS by GraceWillard Journal for HRS by GraceWillard
I made this journal for the House Rabbit Society's annual picnic raffle. The money raised will go to thier shelter costs.

I made all the paper from timothy hay (bunnies love the stuff) and abaca. The sewing is with regular thread and crochet thread is also used.

The size is about 5x9...

Thanks for looking! You can learn more about HRS at [link]

Oh, it's wonderful! ^_^
I know of the HRS (not a member - yet) and their great work. We have 2 buns in our house, one of whom is currently nibbling my pant cuffs.
Can you contribute items to them for auction even if you're not a member? I've been thinking of doing that, what with the holidays coming up.

I imagine so. But it is only $12 to join the local chapter...and then you get invited to all of the fun events!

You know, it never occurred to me to see if they had a local chapter. I've only ever looked at them on the Internet; I need to go check, now.

I use left over timothy hay. I boil it very carefully in a caustic solution to remove all of acids and sugars for a few hours. Then I rinse it for about 1/2 an hour in cold water.
After that I beat it to sperate all of the fibers from the leaves and stalks - usually 1/2 an hour for extremely rough paper and 3 hour for smooth paper.
I usually combine the hay with abaca, linen, or hemp.
Hope this helps!

love it, so delicate and caring. love the concept, too. i want to steal it for my endangered orchid work. i still have to get you on to John Wolsely's work. Send me a note with your postal address and i'll burn you a DVD i have of him and his work and send it to you, cos I just know you'll really connect to it, or at least get something out of it, his approach is very similar to your own
